About Lance Kayfish

Lance has been the Risk Manager for the City of Kelowna for the past 20 years. He also serves as the Risk Manager for the Regional Emergency Program of the Central Okanagan Regional District as a member command group during response and recovery to local disasters such as wildfires and floods. Prior to coming to the City he worked in a variety of risk management capacities for the University of Calgary, which is where he went to school, earning a B.Comm. in Risk Management and Insurance as well as a B.A. in Political Science. Lance is active in the community where he recently concluded a three year term as Chair of the Okanagan College Board of Governors and chaired a provincial committee reviewing executive compensation in the post-secodary education sector. Locally Lance is a member of the Kelowna Rotary Club and the Local Government Management Association. He has also enjoyed being a coach with Kelowna Minor Football for the past two years.In the risk management world Lance was instrumental in the creation of the Communications and External Affairs & Committee of the Risk and Insurance Management Society - Canada Council, which he chaired for the first 5 years raising the profile of RIMS in Canada and representing risk mangers to all levels of government. Lance spearheaded several white papers and RIMS stakeholder responses to consultations regarding insurance legislation both federally and provincially. In 2009 he was recognized for this work and received one of RIMS’ top international awards, The Richard W. Bland Award for government relations. Lance likes to write and has published articles in various newsletters, newspapers and Risk Management Magazine.
