Planned, directed and managed a concept development test lab and prototype shop with an expense budget of $2 million and capital budget of $350,000. Oversaw internal test equipment development and outsourcing. Developed test specifications, timing plans and cost estimates. Designed and successfully implemented a web-based work request system that processed and tracked more than 1,500 tickets a year. Using HALT and FMVT methodologies, developed an accelerated stress screening program and applied to new designs to evaluate product strengths and weaknesses early in the design phase. Management award in 2006 for successfully migrating low-risk validation testing to the Mexican test facilities, enabling Downers Grove facility to focus on concept development. Six Sigma green belt.

Developed test specifications, cost estimates, timing charts and reliability prediction/growth projections. Administered successful “Private-Label” qualification program for switches designed overseas and imported to the U.S. for sale under the Cherry brand name. Initiated an internal test program under the UL Client Test Data Program (CTDP), allowing UL to accept Cherry’s test data in lieu of witnessed testing. Earned certifications in six UL categories covering all of Cherry’s product categories.

Lab Manager, Appliance Controls Division (1993-98) Managed daily operation of Eaton’s Appliance Controls Division test lab after the appliance controls operation was functionally split from the Automotive Controls Division. Directly supervised and managed test engineers, technicians and agency support personnel who performed design validation, reliability and agency testing on prototype, pre-production and production appliance and commercial controls. Maintained extensive contact with major appliance OEM test labs including GE, Whirlpool, Maytag, Frigidaire and Raytheon. Responsible for an annual expense budget of $400,000 and capital budget of $100,000. Improved test throughput by 57 percent from 1993 through 1998 through automation, streamlining of workload and elimination of non-value-added activities.Decreased UL validation testing from 3 months to 2, resulting in increased product throughput.Developed cross-customer test program to reduce redundant testing and decrease validation test time. Obtained certification in UL “Client Test Data Program”, Category 1054, “Special Use Switches.”Responsible for transition to National Instruments LabVIEW data acq/control for test system automation.Served three years on Eaton Quality Award board of examiners.
