Software Engineer – Biometrics Cloud R &D Pilot: Worked as a member of a small team on focused goals to enable Biometric matching capabilities to a cloud-enabled noSQL distributed environment. Utilized existing and developed new interfaces for a large, distributed data processing environment. Integrated biometric matcher algorithms and toolkits from L1/Morphotrust and NEC into distributed cloud infrastructure (HDFS, Apache Storm, Cloudbase/Accumulo noSQL database). Focus on fast, accurate biometrics matching, strong provenance / chain-of-custody of biometric data, and measurement of performance data. This allowed us to create a summary whitepaper for Army INSCOM/PM Biometrics reporting strengths/weaknesses of the approach.

Worked as part of a large development team focused on transitioning a large suite of identity management tools to a cloud-focused infrastructure. Primary data store technologies utilized a Google BigTable noSQL distributed database derivative and postgreSQL. Responsible for refactoring data ingest modules to facilitate storage of data in distributed database. Co-authored software modules to re-generate XML documents from noSQL key/value paired data.

Co-led a team to architect, design, build, and implement a biometrics-focused IR&D project to prototype a new product/system. This system established a software framework, accessible via XML web services, to enable a variety of mobile (wireless) devices of differing capabilities to collect biometric measurements and perform recognition/matching tasks while leveraging an ability to utilize multiple COTS software algorithms. This effort included devices and frameworks from Datastrip, L1, Crossmatch (SEEK II), Apple iOS platform, fulcrum Biometrics, and the Google Android platform.

Responsible for primary software developer for a software systems upgrade to a deployed biometrics capture and identification system is use by the US Coast Guard. Improved existing functionality, added additional capabilities, and improved robustness of a Windows CE and Windows XP based solution. Worked closely with systems engineers to suggest, prototype, and prioritize potential areas of improvement.

Developed and supported customized software workflow processes as part of the Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) team of the Investigative Data Warehouse (IDW) program of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Worked alongside senior staff and engineers to define requirements and specifications for data and metadata to be ingested into a VLDB Oracle 10g RAC environment containing multiple datasets of Classified, Law Enforcement Sensitive, and Unclassified information routinely used in counter-intelligence and law enforcement operations. Maintained and improved existing workflows, and integrated new datasets into existing processes and procedures. Managed and maintained Business Objects Data Quality XI installation for data cleansing and standardization.

Provided application development, system integration, database design and modeling and physical deployment for the Document Conversion Laboratory (DocLab) Unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Interacted closely with the government, other contractor personnel, third-party vendors, and their representatives to conduct technical activities on mission dependent Input/Accel, Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005, Oracle v9.2i, Windows XP/2003R2 Server and other system processes related to engineering and production process management. Designed, developed, tested, and deployed a customized software solution to capture over 8 million pages of previously-imaged intelligence documents. This solution was centered around a customized SQL Server 2000 database and C# windows application that managed inventory, batch creation, verification, and process reporting. This task also provided the opportunity to create a specialized module for the EMC/Captiva’s Input/Accel Enterprise server. Since completion of this project, the application and database backbone have been adapted to provide similar functionality to other projects still in production.

Information Capture Design and Administration – EMC/Captiva Certified Developer– utilizing EMC/Captiva Software’s Input/Accel Client-Server based solution to build custom software workflows for image, OCR, and metadata capture on an estimated 20+ million pages from varying customers ranging from single-person businesses to large Federal agencies.Assisted in the design, implementation, and administration for the capture of federal employee personnel records within the eOPF and eOPF2 imaging solutions provided by Imaging Acceptance Corporation to Integic / Northrop-Grumman for federal agencies including United States Coast Guard, Homeland Security, Department of Labor, Library of Congress, and others.Document Imaging and Metadata Development – Utilized Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 to develop custom application solutions for the manipulation and organization of image data and metadata captured through OCR and document indexing.
