Profile bio

About Andrew Rayner

I believe in building bridges and augmenting communities. Through my work, I have helped individuals better understand themselves and the systems in which they are a part in an effort to create equitable and inclusive spaces and organizations. My 13-plus years of experience as a teacher, community organizer, facilitator, and consultant have afforded me the opportunity to work with CEOs, managers, teachers, community members, and young people in schools, non-profits, large tech, and other organizations across the country and world. I believe in an intersectional approach to DEI work with a race-forward lens. Most recently, I worked as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Business Partner at Meta. There, I ran a suite of solutions that support the retention, growth, and development of underrepresented people in tech for the Monetization organization (7000+ staff globally). I was also the chair of Black@Pride, an intersectional employee resource group that serves Black, LGBTQ+ staff. Previously, I was a founding team member and consultant at Promise54, an education nonprofit talent and organizational culture consulting firm with a heavy focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). There, the majority of my work focused on creating and facilitating DEI capacity building sessions in addition to developing 3-5 year DEI strategic plans. I also helped organizations improve their culture through assessing and developing talent and people systems, practices, and policies. Before working at Promise54, I worked as a founding member of the first KIPP Middle School in Boston where I was a 6th grade Math and Special Education teacher, and as a behavioral specialist at the Alliance for Inclusion and Prevention, Inc. I started my career as a volunteer teacher of English in the Marshall Islands followed by teaching theater and social justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I received my BA in English from Dartmouth College and EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education.I identify as a Black, cis-gender, queer man. While I currently call San Francisco home, I am originally from Chicago and I proudly still say “pop” instead of “soda.” In the Bay Area, I help organize social meet-ups for Black LGBTQ men (check out @baeblackboy on IG). I love to sing, cook, write, play dodgeball, and engage in complex conversations; Stevie Wonder, Bayard Rustin, and my parents are my idols.

Listed skills include Blogging, Teaching, Editing, Social Media, and 49 others.
