Acute care externship where I independently completed clinical swallow evaluations, identified patients at risk for dysphasia with recommendation for appropriate instrumental evaluations with minimal assistance from supervisors. Assisted in running Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES); independently analyzed findings to determine dysphasia physiology and severity; generated treatment plans. Completed Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS) with minimal assistance from supervisor; assessed effectiveness of compensation strategies trialed during study; employed findings to determine dysphasia physiology and severity; developed treatment plan; and, completed MBSImP Student edition. Ran rehabilitative dysphagia treatments in inpatient and outpatient settings with use of strength-based therapy through EMST and effortful swallow exercises. Exposure to tracheostomies and Passy Muir Valves (PMV). Led treatments in cognition, language, dysarthria, and apraxia in inpatient, including the ICU, and outpatient settings; evaluated cognition, language, and speech skills. EMR documentation was completed using EPIC software.
