Lani Asuncion (they/she) is a multimedia artist and educator working within public spaces to create socially engaged art that incorporates new media technologies and performance. Asuncion was awarded the Public Art for Spatial Justice (2022) grant from New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA); Live Arts Boston (2020) grant from the Boston Foundation; CreateWell Fund Future Frequencies Fellow (2022) part of Assets for Artists artist residency program Studios at MASS Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA); is a Boston Fellow in the MassArt Creative Economy Business Incubator (2022); was awarded the Public Art for Spatial Justice Grant (2022) from the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA); and Kala Fellowship Award (2022-23) part of Kala Art Institute artist residency program. The goal of the Artists Department is to support and foster a rich and diverse community of individual artists through grants, services, and advocacy. This grant program was second largest at the agency in the past 16 years, with a budget of $16 million and a total of 8,592 applicants with 7,500 awardees. The Temporary Program Officer is a seven month contracted position responsible for applicant support, grants management, and overall administration of the Massachusetts Legislature’s An Act relative to immediate COVID-19 recovery needs, which invests state and federal funds into pandemic recovery, including to the cultural sector. This program provides one-time grants for individual artists, teaching artists/scientists/humanists, and independent cultural workers, to aid in career recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.Reporting to the Artists Team Program Manager, the Temporary Program Officer provides coordination for all aspects of the grants process including launch, application period, processing and review, and grants notification.Administrative duties include, but are not limited to:* Provide guidance and support to potential applicants including guidelines, eligibility, and other application logistics* Participate in other applicant trainings and support, such as information sessions, virtual meetings, etc., as needed* Support applicants in using the grants management system (GMS)* Process and review submitted applications* Prepare reports, data, and materials for Fiscal Department staff and the Governor-appointed Council* Collaborate with other Artists Department staff and manager in support of overall department goals
