I obtained a College Degree in Liberal Arts in 1990, graduating as Valedictorian. I continue to have a love for literature, the Creative Arts and philosophy. I graduated from the Heritage College Nursing program in 1994 as the proud recipient of the Deanna Hughes Memorial Award, which is presented to the graduating nursing student who in the opinion of the Nursing Department best combined: excellence in clinical performance ,leadership, and academic achievement. My nursing career spans 28 years, starting off in fertility, family medicine and the Medical units at the QCH and the General Hospital. I was mentored by the renowned Dermatologist Dr Sharyn Laughlin for over 15 years at Laserderm. Dr Laughlin completed a fellowship with the late Dr Leon Goldman, the "grandfather of Laser medicine". This led to Dr Laughlin becoming one of three dermatologists to start the sub-specialty of laser dermatology on Canada. With this privilege I have enjoyed over 15 years of vast cosmetic and medical laser experience with many different laser modalities. I was the Nurse Team Leader for the vascular program, managing care for pediatric and adult portwine stain clinics, and was part of long-term research studies focused on improving patient care for these vascular clinics. I am in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, RNAO, and the American Society of Laser Medicine. I continue my laser nursing education by attending conferences, seminars and on line learning.
