I have been an English teacher for the last eight years in Japan, and I have been working with children for about twenty years in childcare, coaching and tutoring. For the last eight months, I have been working as a preschool teacher in Tokyo. My duties have included teaching English, phonics, math, and art in an all-English environment, as well as teaching elementary-aged children in after-school lessons, and participating in school events. Before moving to the Tokyo area, I was living up north in Mito, Ibaraki. There I worked mostly as an English conversation teacher to both children and adults. For the last three years that I lived there, I worked at a small start-up conversation school, where I had the opportunity to learn and grow as an educator. My duties included: choosing textbooks and other course materials, creating the curriculum, making schedules (week/month/year), as well as teaching the courses. I also did quite a bit of translating and other administrative tasks such as answering the phones and writing emails.In Canada, I worked mainly in childcare positions. Starting from about 10 years old, I was a parent's helper and a babysitter. After that, I also had positions as a nanny, assistant soccer coach, soccer referee and linesman, tutor, and teacher's assistant.
