I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of professional experience. I joined the Stony Brook Community in 2008 and was charged with providing clinical, prevention and outreach services to a diverse student body of over 24,000 students. As Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Clinical Services I revolutionized Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention services for our campus. Our campus evolved from having little to no services in this area to becoming a national model for alcohol and other drug prevention. Some of my work at Stony Brook includes the curriculum development of the Red Watch Band program, a nationally recognized bystander intervention program to reduce high risk alcohol use on college campuses which has been feature on multiple news media outlets, (NBC, CBS, NPR), an award winning Prevention Through the Arts peer education program, an innovative team focused prevention program for student athletes, the development of a collegiate recovery program, and the development of an Alcohol Assessment Committee. My approach to my work has been to see the big picture in prevention, outreach and treatment which has translated in programs that were never before present at this university and the re-invention of those that were. I am passionate about the well-being of all students and understand the importance of approaching academic success and students’ well-being through a holistic lens.
