Team-based client work in a 12-credit semester-long clinic, which I was able to extend for another semester. My team represented individuals, communities and movements targeted by “national security” and “counter-terrorism” policies and practices. I drafted a legal memorandum outlining federal claims which I then used to draft a complaint for federal court against USCIS for unreasonable delays in adjudicating a naturalization application. This was filed in the SDNY and our client was eventually granted citizenship. Assembled CRBA application in which I took affidavits, conducted interviews, and gathered evidence. Additionally, I drafted team meeting agendas, participated in interviews with federal law enforcement, and advised clients on contacts with law enforcement.

Examined evidence and drafted complaint submitted to the EDNY appealing a social security determination. Co-wrote pre-hearing memorandum for social security benefits. Interviewed and wrote testimony of people currently incarcerated on the impacts of restrictive housing on mental health, which I presented to the New York Board of Corrections

Drafted multiple memoranda of law and researched potential legal strategies to be used in Lopez v. NYC Dep't. of Homeless Services, a class action suit brought with and for LGBTQ homeless populations living in New York City.

Engaged in advocacy and representation of low-income undergraduate students to ensure they maintained public assistance while continuing their educations. Drafted an extensive research memorandum for Welfare Rights Initiative on the impact on CUNY Students of proposed administrative rule changes to food stamps. Conducted Know Your Rights workshop for college students on public assistance.

Researched and compiled current legislation and litigation surrounding issues of reproductive justice for Professor Cindy Soohoo, co-director of the Human Rights and Gender Justice Clinic at CUNY School of Law. Summarized and wrote blog posts providing updates on the reproductive justice landscape, applying a human rights framework to current US policy and practices regarding reproductive rights.

Co-wrote a memorandum of law to establish standing of a non-gestational mother in a child custody suit which was submitted to Queens Family Court. Co-authored a public comment regarding the impact of proposed administrative rule changes to transgender patients. Assembled asylum and U-visa applications, drafted affidavits, conducted interviews, and gathered evidence.

Managed services for all clients in a 17-bed shelter, including crisis interventions, counseling, applying for social services, safety planning, and securing safe housing.

Independently managed caseload of clients providing one-on-one counseling, legal advocacy, and court accompaniment. Provided phone counsel to 24 hour Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline clients
