When people think of Australian food, they often think of some of the blandest dishes to come out of Europe. Locals will often treat visitors to a plate of meat pies, lamingtons, pavlova or fairy bread. Australia has world class fresh produce, environmentally sustainable farming practices, and a rich, diverse and flavour filled multi-cultural community built on the foundation of a millennia old Indigenous culture. AgriFood Catalyst focusses on developing the Australian food identity with a multi prong approach. 1. Working with the Agricultural industry to reduce food waste through the development of value-add solutions. This is achieved in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Queensland Fruit and Vegetable Growers through the delivery of initiatives like the Farm Business Resilience Program one on one with farmers. 2. Development of the First Nations food industry to create commercially scalable, shelf stable products, export opportunities and a robust supply chain. In collaboration with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, AgriFood Catalyst provides technical support, facilitates business opportunities and manages a database of resources along the supply chain.3. Support for emerging food businesses with access to mentoring, resources, and networks. We advocate for, showcase and promote their products to attract investment and create commercially viable enterprises particularly in the migrant communities who wish to connect with people through food.4. Facilitation of shared food manufacturing resources / facilities through the management of a database of kitchen facilities available to businesses who are developing their product through the proof-of-concept phase. This reduces the initial investment required to establish infrastructure and fit for purpose equipment.

The Project aims to facilitate the transition toregenerative agriculture in the Atherton Tablelands region and establish a regional food hub across Cairns.This hub will connect with supermarkets, institutions, and advocates for a circular economy, fosteringregional capacity and providing long-term support for regenerative agriculture in the Atherton Tablelands.

The Food Beverage Institute Ltd (FBI) is the Not For Profit arm of the Qld Food Incubator. The board of the FBI includes leaders from the food industry, food business mentors, and food manufacturing engineers. Drawing on their expertise and networks the board provides guidance to develop policy and deliver programs which develop capacity within the food and beverage industry.
