It Security Specialist
CurrentResponsibilities:Train and mentor other technical staff in the district with the network and other major troubleshooting issues. Actively participate in large scale projects and leverage / share prior relevant skills and experience with other members of the ITD team. Recommend technical solutions to increase performance, redundancy, and flexibility of the network.Contribute to the evaluation, selection, procurement, installation and utilization of department enterprise networking systems.Leverage network monitoring tools to analyze network capacity and performance to provide proactive effectiveness and efficiency for system availability.Develop or contribute to operating procedures and guidelines for the district’s technology network infrastructure and information securityEstablish security (firewalls, VPN, content filters) connectivity and access parameters.Cisco network, web security and firewall administrationContinuous monitoring and risk assessment for network securityInterface with Internet Service Providers (ISP) and Fiber contractorsCoordinate outside Domain Name Service (DNS) mappings for internal network devices with the district’s ISP.Monitor network bandwidth performance while upgrading circuits as necessary Google organizational unit and Gmail administration Process public records requests or access to Google records ensuring compliance with state and federal policies Maintain working relationship with local Orange Public Education Network OPEN members (Town of Carrboro, UNC, and Town of Chapel Hill) in the interest of building fiber to each of our sites and using shared resources when possible.Research emerging networking technologies and provide recommendations for purchase and implementation.Serve as a resource in assisting other technical staff in the district with networking, training and major troubleshooting issues.Assist in developing district networking processes and procedures,standards, and future directions.
