The Ladder partners with nonprofit organizations to help individuals, typically with short-termneeds that fall outside the nonprofit’s scope of services. Our ideal client is one who is makingprogress in their life, climbing the proverbial ladder, but they’ve encountered an obstacle, or a“missing rung.” The Ladder helps them overcome this obstacle so that they can keep movingforward. Examples of the help we have provided are past-due utilities or rent, car repairs or adown payment for a vehicle, co-pay for addiction treatment, and materials to fix a roof. This avery unique way to make a real difference in people’s lives. But the most unusual and highlybeneficial way we have helped people is through zero-interest loans. We have paid off debts thatwere costing people 25-50% in interest. They pay us back over three years with no interest,which has a three-fold benefit. It improves their credit rating almost immediately. It saves themthousands of dollars in interest. And it puts money back into The Ladder’s budget to help thenext people climbing up.
