“Tell me more.” I still remember that phrase from one of my assigned books when I was a Psychology major at U.C. Berkeley. At the time, I was excited to learn a practical tool to help people open up and explore their thoughts and feelings. As I reflect on my journey, I realize that my career has always been at the intersection of psychology and business. That simple phrase that I learned so many years ago conveys a thread that has been there throughout my career - a genuine interest in understanding people and helping them gain clarity on their interests, their important values, their priorities, and supporting them in creating a fulfilling career and life.I spent the first part of my career in various Human Resources positions in the corporate world, focusing on recruitment and selection, employee relations, and corporate training, including teaching one of my favorite courses, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. After going through a year-long coaching training program, I combined my coaching skills with the expertise I had gained from my years in HR, including behind-the-scenes knowledge of why people get hired or promoted, to become a Career Coach.I now coach experienced professionals to support them in their career goals, whether it’s a desire to change industries or job functions, discover a career that will be more meaningful to them, or develop their leadership skills. I am a Certified Designing Your Life Coach (a “design thinking” approach to career and life). I also draw upon other frameworks such as Ikigai – “reason for being”.
