What do I contribute? Leading teams while solving problems and improving efficiency and processes. I believe every child CAN learn to read, and deserves high-quality, research-based instruction. I offer a unique perspective to education because I understand education from multiple viewpoints: general education, special education, intervention, and assessment. I have been an elementary teacher, grade level chair, designed and led a reading intervention program, provided individual dyslexia therapy to clients, trained staff on dyslexia and other learning differences, conducted cognitive and academic testing, and an instructional coach working with staff to provide literacy instruction. Every step I have taken in my career has been to enhance my knowledge and skillset in literacy, and improve outcomes for all educators and students. I have taken students who are non-readers and turned them into readers. Many of my former students are now thriving in college. I am also highly organized and get results. I currently manage a caseload of 11 schools and have achieved 100% compliance 4 years in a row.I am a lifelong learner who loves a challenge, and is always seeking ways to enhance my skillset and knowledge. I am a firm believer in the science of reading approach and enjoy reading research about best instructional practices. I hold a M.Ed. in Reading and Writing, a M.S.W. in social work, and a B.A. in psychology. These degrees, along with my professional experience, have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to assess and address the diverse needs of students, especially those who are neurodivergent and have learning differences. I am extremely efficient, and passionate about helping students, and staff, achieve their potential. One of my favorite jobs? Being a camp counselor at Talisman Programs for kids with neurological differences in the mountains of NC during summers off from college. Backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, and white water rafting! Mountains are my happy place!Fun fact, my cover photo is of the mountains in Whistler. I hiked those particular mountains while 7 months pregnant. You can do anything with the right mindset!
