Library Experience:I started volunteering with the Summer Reading program at age 10, and assisting with children’s Story Time at age 15. I learned by experience the importance of dynamic adjustments based on the needs of those in attendance to make the program a fun experience for all involved.I have worked at the Madison Library District since 2019, and I was advanced from Page to the Youth Service Librarian Assistant in April 2021. I am responsible for planning and conducting programs for youth ages 12-18. A colleague and I innovated the way in which the library engages youth, creating themed Discord servers to provide age-appropriate challenges and games. Our first Discord program, themed Harry Potter, had 28 participants. The second program, themed Percy Jackson, had 32 participants (and by the second day there were over a thousand comments on the server). Both programs ran 2.5 months and innovatively enhanced participation and provided accessible ways for youth to connect to each other and the library programs. Other programs I plan and run include the Teen Action Council, Teen Dungeons and Dragons games, Teen Anime Club, Teen Crafts, the Teen Writers Group, the Tween Book clubs for ages 9-11, and weekly evening Story Time for ages 2-6.
