For more than 18 years I have been advising on a broad range of corporate tax issues, in both in-house and public accounting firm roles. My first hand experience across all areas of corporate taxation as both client and adviser provides me with a valuable insight into the business drivers and governance of the tax function within organisations. This insight helps me gain an intimate knowledge of my clients’ businesses, something I believe is fundamental to delivering high quality advice.I specialise in the natural resources sector, having spent seven years as in-house tax adviser to two of the world’s largest diversified mining companies (Rio Tinto Coal Australia and Xstrata Coal) and having advised companies in the coal seam gas and coal to liquid industries. My experience has seen me be actively involved in lobbying Government and shaping the debate on the proposed Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT) and Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT). I am a member of the Australian Taxation Office’s National Tax Liaison Group Resource Rent Tax sub-committee.I also translate the impact of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme for my clients and help manage their interactions with revenue authorities, including for Australian Taxation Office client risk reviews and audits, private and class ruling applications, and Government lobbying.Key assignments to date include providing taxation advice and due diligence services for private and public company mergers and acquisitions, restructures, refinancing and public offerings. I have delivered international taxation advice in relation to cross border investments by some of the world’s largest organisations (particularly for natural resource sector issues) and managed the tax compliance and external reporting functions for multinational organisations.Specialties: Natural resources – mining, oil and gas, petroleum, mining services, exploration; corporate taxation; mergers and acquisitions; corporate restructures and financing; international taxation.
