- Oversight of multi-million dollar Research and Development Services Agreement between Butamax and DuPont for Biobutanol biocatalyst and fermentation development.- Responsible for clarifying the business objectives, prioritizing deliverables for the Biobutanol biocatalyst development program, workplan development, and ensuring that R&D and intellectual property (IP) deliverables are met aligned with business needs.- Communication with both internal and corporate level management through project dashboards and multi-generational roadmaps; Responsible for delivering technical update presentations to both Butamax officers and the Board of Directors.- Responsible for supporting IP strategy development and for tactical execution of the Butamax biocatalyst IP strategy. Interface closely with R&D and patent attorneys to tailor the intellectual property portfolio to commercial needs.

- Biocatalyst team leader: Facilitated communication among strain development groups and fermentation/process groups, and worked with DuPont and Butamax IP personnel to coordinate and file patent applications. Managed contract research partnership with external collaborator.- Engineered industrial yeast strains for the production of biobutanol and worked closely with biochemistry and fermentation personnel to optimize the organism and fermentation process- Co-authored 13 patent applications on biobutanol biocatalyst development- Six Sigma Green Belt

- Utilized molecular biology techniques and metabolic engineering to optimize bacterial strains for large-scale production of the anti-malarial drug artemisinin as part of a $43 million dollar grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.- Developed microbial strains suitable for large-scale production of isoprenoids and biofuels, and assisted with optimization of process development. Worked closely with the fermentation department to troubleshoot and optimize strains for yield and productivity. Repeatedly met project milestones and accomplished project objectives ahead of schedule.

- Conducted research into the development of antimicrobial peptides and bacterial conjugation as a new technology to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria.- Created a novel transcriptional control system for controlling gene expression in bacteria.- Co-authored two patent applications and two peer-reviewed papers on ConjuGon technology. - Co-authored a successful $500,000 SBIR Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation.
