I held one or two positions at Mentor over the years including management of hardware support, server and storage teams. My last position was IT Architect specializing in storage.Although I was lead for the team that owned the bulk-buy server specifications and also lead for the grid server team, the bulk of my work was in the area of network attached storage. I led a global team of storage administrators that managed about 3 PB of storage across 40+ sites. This group established policies and procedures for storage management.I also evaluated new storage technologies and planned storage expansion and performance needs for all Mentor sites. Typically half of the sites needed attention each year and the budget was millions of dollars so it was a significant project each year. Like any corporation, there was a difference between the ideal and the base requirements, so there were plans and alternate plans prepared and presented each year. We did quite a bit of work to stay cost-effective in the area of storage.Mentor purchased storage only once per year near midyear and projections began late in the prior year to accommodate the budget cycle. These made projections critical and I developed custom scripts and considerable experience over the years to assist Mentor in projecting needs for 18 to 24 months in advance.
