    The Opportunity:BreakAway is a work-for-hire developer within the gaming and serious game industry with a dynamic leader whose vision incorporated building a software company around a proprietary development kit developed for the U.S. Department of Defense. BreakAway sought leadership in finance, operations, fundraising and business re-engineering.The Result:BreakAway's product required extensive re-engineering. In less than 1 year finances were secured, including $4M of additional angel financing and $1.5M line of credit; operations improved; and key relationships solidified. The company continues to pursue key game developer relationships and improve its product offering.The Highlights: Organized and professionalized the accounting, IT and finance functions.Spearheaded fundraising activities and arranged $4M of angel financing.Arranged $1.5M line of credit with Silicon Valley Bank as well as an equipment leasing line of $120k.Re-organized GAAP and Tax financials and completed 2004 thru 2006 reporting.Instituted systems, procedures and reporting around human resources, information technology and finance to streamline and organize the enterprise.Developed project cost analysis tools and systems for management as well as streamlined and improved reporting.

    The Opportunity:The Macks family branched out to form a venture capital fund to expand beyond its real estate roots. Initially, this meant greater responsibility over the real estate operation. In January 2000, the CFO responsibilities for Boulder Ventures were tucked under my stewardship.The Result:The venture and real estate industries share a common trait in that they are usually formed as limited partnerships and these partner relations are key to success. While results for the funds were mixed, the financial leadership was solid. Key transactions such as stock distributions and capital calls were handled perfectly. Financial reports were designed to enlighten the investor, and were produced reliably and accurately throughout.The Highlights:Financial responsibilities for a $250M venture fund with 3 offices across the United States. Responsible for all facets of capital calls, distributions, cash management and financial reporting. Heavily involved in PPM design and website development to bring openness to an otherwise opaque business. Responsible for SEC regulation compliance with regard to private equity. Responsible for partner relationships including tax correspondence, quarterly reports and all financial activities with the Limited Partners.
