Mechanical Engineering Intern
Fairport, New York, Us
As the Mechanical Engineering Intern, I worked closely with the Senior Mechanical Engineer as well as the Engineering Lab Technician on a variety of complex projects. My duties involved utilizing AutoCAD Inventor to modify existing products to suite the needs of the customer, perform IP and Shock Testing on new products/prototypes, and assisting the Lab Technician by drafting finished products with final dimensions. The main project that I worked on during my internship was creating and designing the QTMS (Quality Transformer Monitoring System) demo box. The purpose of this project is to show the function of Qualitrol's level, pressure, and temperature system placed in a convenient and portable box that is easy to transport. This product will be used by the sales engineers and project managers during meetings with clients, allowing them to show potential customers our products without requiring customers to travel on site. When designing this product, AutoCAD Inventor was utilized to model the demo box and drawings with dimensions were created for each part of the product. All components were selected based off material, weight, and cost. The final product is lightweight, airport friendly as no metal was used in the design of the box, and cost 20% less than originally anticipated by the Engineering Lab Technician.
