As Director of Training and Consulting I managed our training and direct service program operations domestically and world-wide. I also served as Senior Trainer and Consultant specializing in team and leadership development for education, corporate and non-profit organizations. Clients included US and international public school systems, independent schools and universities. I also worked with leading experience-based training organizations in several countries. Initiatives of special interest included applying adventure learning methods towards Social Emotional Learning/Career Readiness Skills, supporting school and district-wide SEL and culture efforts, and use of experiential learning to advance team and leadership models. In 2014 I engaged in extensive speaking and training engagements in China, Israel, Colombia and France.I have worked in the fields of Experience-Based Training and Adventure Education for 25 years and with PA since 2006. • Founding Member & Board member, 1985 – Present. After co-founding this Mali-based NGO www.tassaght.org and served in a volunteer advisory capacity helping to secure program funding, strategic partnerships and provide guidance on organizational development. Tassaght is the largest national NGO in Mali with 67 staff operating across the conflict-ridden north and center of the country.• Guest Speaker, 1990 - 2001. In collaboration with Tuareg agro-pastoral communities as well as government and international development agencies, Tassaght designs and implements culturally appropriate development programs. Through speaking engagements and a photography exhibit present the environmental, political and economic challenges facing Tuareg peoples of northern Mali. Groups addressed include schools, community groups, cultural associations, and professional associations.• Co-Director/Co-Founder, 1985. Raised funds then recruited and hired three Malians to establish this indigenous non-governmental development organization, the first in the region of Gao. During first four months of operation helped define mission and goals, established management strategies, developed funding approaches, and opened collaborative relations with communities, government authorities, and other non-governmental organizations. • Project Manager, 1983-1984. As a tourist obtained unprecedented 6 month work visa from the Minister of the Interior. Participated in establishment of a project committee then financed and coordinated construction of Tidjerwene, a settlement of adobe homes designed to assist Tuareg agro-pastoralists cope with drought, famine and socioeconomic change. Set initial ground-work and relationships for establishment of Tassaght.

Attend to organizational and board development, foundation & government grants pursuit, and support to the IFSI ‘Immigrant Navigator’, a multi-lingual web portal with published immigrant narratives and analysis. These stories link to in-person services that ease and accelerate the settlement and social integration of vulnerable, often undocumented immigrants. Key features are the stories these immigrants share with IFSI staff through interviews and from which other immigrants and service providers gain inspiration, lessons about how to navigate the perilous journey and US integration process. These stories also educate a broader US public including policy makers, educators and service providers.

Ethnosphere Coordinator, 2001 – 2002 (part-time). Launched the Ethnosphere, a collaboration with National Geographic fostering public awareness of threatened peoples and the importance of traditional wisdom for addressing pressing issues of global concern. Worked with IT staff to transform the CS website into a continually renewed source of reliable information pertaining to indigenous peoples and issues. Coordinated work of contributing consultants, managed intern teams, established a weekly indigenous news service, fostered institutional partnerships, and introduced the Ethnosphere through presentations and exhibits at the United Nations and international conferences. Assumed a coordinating role for the first Ethnosphere documentary expedition to Mali with NG and National Public Radio.Djenne Project Coordinator, 2001 – 2005 (part-time). Commissioned expert review of a proposed $30M dam project in Mali showing that studies were incomplete, and the dam could have significant detrimental effects on downstream stakeholders. Applied data to convince the lending institution that a three-year construction delay. Successfully managed dialog between technical experts, African Development Bank, US Treasury, Malian government, and regional stakeholders. Further studies led to significant design improvements and engagement of previously marginalized stakeholders. Fund Raising Consultant, 2002. Managed a team of staff and interns to prepare CS annual reports for previous 3 fiscal years. Proposed recommendations for fund raising and redesign of organization’s program structure and financial reporting that were adopted for FY 2003.

School-Based Operations Director - Boston Public Schools Programs, 2004 - 2005. Manage school-based operations for Choices, the organizations’ flagship program delivering character education services to 2000 youth and teachers in the Boston Public Schools. Responsible for enrollment, school-based instruction, summer scholarship recruitment, and relations with partner schools. Administrative tasks include budgeting and billing, contracts management, evaluation, and fund raising support. Also direct Green Corps, a National Park Service supported summer youth employment program for Choices graduates. NPS funding provided through a 5-year $80-$90,000/year cooperative agreement I established in 2001.Administration Director - Boston Public Schools Programs, 1997 - 2001. Responsible for Choices program administration emphasizing school district and individual partner school relations, and collaborations with city and federal agencies as well as community organizations and universities. Prepared and managed budgets and billing as well as financial and program reports. Assisted with donor relations including grants securing more than $500,000 annually. Obtained $300,000 in federal funds for a five-year evaluation process resulting in recognition of Choices as a promising model for addressing youth violence. Planning Committee Representative, Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area, 1999 - 2001. Represented Thompson Island Outward Bound on the Planning Committee of the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area. Collaborated with community, city, state and federal officials for development of this unique urban park.

Assisted the Director managing a field office with 60 staff. Collaborated with government officials and village representatives to design and implement programs in adult literacy, agricultural extension, natural resource management, and primary health care in forty Mossi villages.
