Profile bio

About Larry Fleeman

I am a creative and adaptable Mechanical & Metallurgical Engineer with extensive knowledge in applying clever problem-solving skills to resolve challenging problems in complex mechanical, electro-mechanical and optical systems. My colleagues say I "have [the] courage to try radical changes," that I am "eager to learn, incredibly tenacious" and my "engineering knowledge, planning, and execution are outstanding."I grew up with a burning curiosity to grasp how things work, viewing the world with awe and wonder. My best friend and I designed, built, dissected and modified anything that captured our imaginations. We devised our own unique model rocket designs that often dismantled themselves during launch or vanished forever high in the sky. We put hours into squeezing out every last bit of speed from our favorite slot cars by tinkering with the motors and tires. We built and modified every conceivable electronic circuit we could imagine using our Radio Shack 100-in-1 kits to produce all kinds of strange sounds, electronic switches, and sensors.I cut my teeth on real engineering at KMS Fusion during college and I was hooked! I developed mechanisms and cutting-edge sensors for "Chroma," a 2 trillion watt Nd:glass laser, which imploded deuterium/tritium (DT) targets to drive thermonuclear fusion implosions. I applied my engineering knowledge to design vacuum systems, non-linear optics such as Faraday rotators, X-ray spectrometers, 10kV capacitor banks, and even the Strategic Defense Initiative ("Star Wars").I dove into increasingly complex development problems after graduating from the University of Michigan with honors. The more challenging the problem the more I enjoy the thrill to discover the most innovative solution.I love taking on seemingly impossible technical challenges, collaborating with a creative team and striving to enhance the value I bring to my employer to dramatically increase profits. I have a voracious appetite for learning new skills and taking action proactively to give an unfair competitive advantage. My passion is to be part of a creative, pioneering team that pours their hearts into their work, pushing the envelope with boldness and courage.
