Responsible for the $10 million Capital Projects for IT infrastructure and networking improvement. The IT project included the installation of a gigabit Ethernet fiber optic wide area network backbone to all district schools & administrative locations covering 42 miles. In addition, scope of the job included the successful management of a storage area network acquisition, server reduction and centralization, e-mail conversion projects, application consolidation, wireless guest access and virtual desktop projects.

Successfully managed the Social Services Payment System (SSPS) upgrade. SSPS pays over 65,000 DSHS providers totaling over $150 million monthly (almost $2 billion annually). This project was a major software rewrite of a mission critical application with high exposure. The project utilized IS state-of-the-art server technologies and legacy mainframe computer systems (a cross functional development project). The project was a Level 2 project – via ISB (DIS) determination - and a success.

• Responsible for all technology functions and information processing including software application services, computer operations/data control, telecommunications, networking (LAN, WAN and wireless), desktop support, security, small equipment/computer repair, and library services; • Led the acquisition, selection, and implementation of major software application system for mission critical software application projects; • Developed and maintained the Technology Strategic Plan; • Negotiated vendor contracts for major platform upgrades and changes (downsizing); • Negotiated a dark-fiber optic background contract with the city cable franchise agreement for gigabit backbone to 65 remote locations; • Fiscally responsible for the technology general fund and capital fund projects budget exceeding $12 million annually; • Responsible for a staff of over 50 employees including four managers and two supervisors; • Responsible for applying and receiving over $10 million in federal grants (E-Rate) for networking and telecommunications projects (largest funding recipient in Washington State).

At the time, Albuquerque Public Schools was the 19th largest school district in the United States with over 100,000 students and 11,000 employees. The duties of the IT Director included:• Responsible for all technology functions and information processing including software application services, computer operations/data control, networking (LAN and WAN), desktop support/repair, and security and telecommunications; • Successfully led a $9 million major hardware platform and mission critical application software migration process (from one major vendor platform to another major vendor);• Successfully developed and implemented technology strategic plan;• Successfully developed, implemented and tested the disaster backup and recovery procedures for payroll systems;• Responsible for all technology training;• Project manager for all major technology projects;• Responsible for a staff of over 70 employees including two assistant directors, four managers, and four supervisors.
