I was a science educator for 30 years and have expertise in the physical sciences, especially energy and the environment issues. In 2012 I traveled to Guatemala as part of an Illinois Central College project to educate Guatemalans in developing passive solar energy systems to dry coffee beans The past five years I have become a vocal proponent of patient and caregiver support for those suffering from multiple system atrophy and Parkinson's disease. In 2017 I worked with a local college to develop a beginning astronomy course and ensure its approval by the college board and the state of Illinois. I have also become a self-taught fundraiser for the MSA Coalition, heading up volunteer committees for five fundraisers with a sixth this year.

From 2008 through 2016 I was caregiver of my wife who had a rare and terminal disease, multiple system atrophy, retiring in August 2013 to become her primary caregiver. I became the caregiver representative for the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition in 2014 and have continued to serve on the MSA Coalition Board of Directors. I currently work for MadDog Cleaning and host two support groups for MSA and atypical parkinsonism patients, as well as a discussion group for PD patients and caregivers. Since 2014 I've worked with volunteers to hold yearly fundraisers for the MSA Coalition and am now a mentor for a federally funded project initiated by Rush University Medical Center. I also volunteer at the Peoria area Rock Steady Boxing program for PD patients.
