Section Lead Eoir Systems Capabilities GroupBae Systems Jan 2019 - PresentLondon, Gb -
Lead Photonic Systems EngineerSatake Corporation Jul 2004 - Jan 2019InHighly competent in the design and implementation of LED illumination systems and high speed machine vision camera/acquisition systems. -
Engineering ManagerSensortran, Inc Jan 2002 - Jul 2004Fiber Optic SensorsLed the design and development of a fiber optic sensor system used for distributed temperature measurements. Re-designed the instrument for improved technical performance of the following: optical throughput and back-reflection; passively Q-switched Nd:YAG, laser; avalanche photodiodes (APD); and redesigned the WDM (demux) component for performance and cost. Analyzed the system performance and signal processing using MATLAB 6.5. The instrument measures the Raman backscatter of the laser pulse that propagates down a multimode optical fiber sensor. Consulted on various customer applications for the DTS instrument and potential contracts including: NASA Mars Lander project, Navy sonar tether, and a down-hole oil and gas system.

Lead Optical EngineerEvacyte, Inc. Jul 2001 - Dec 2001
-
Lead Optical EngineerEvacyte Corporation, Inc Jul 2001 - Dec 2001Biotech pre-IPOLed the engineering and design of a biomedical instrument using Nd:YAG laser, fiber optic couplers, and silicon v-groove arrays. Designed and developed the instrument from a research project from the U. of Texas to a micro-fluidic "turn-key" system. Design tools used included Zemax (Optical Design Software), and AutoCAD2000. Analysis tools include LabVIEW, IMAQ Vision Toolkit, and MS Excel. Developed the processes to make silicon v-groove array chips for the micro-fluidics device. Developed the thermal management system for temperature control of the silicon chips. Developed the "no free space" optical system to deliver the high power Nd:YAG laser light to the region of interest without the use of free space optics.

Lead Optical EngineerRadiant Photonics, Inc. Jan 2001 - Jul 2001
-
Lead Optical Test Engineer - Telecommunications Pre-IpoRadiant Photonics, Inc Jan 2001 - Jul 2001Led a team of engineers and technicians in the design verification testing (DVT) of planar waveguide switches, variable optical attenuators (VOA), and Optical Add-Drops (OAD). Assisted in the design and development of the optical packaging for the device with high channel count (up to 40 channels per device) using automated 6-DOF stages. Designed, integrated and tested a high channel-count test station for the switch/VOA devices. The system included photodiodes, lasers, the National Instruments Real Time Operating System (RTOS) with a LabView GUI and the electronics to drive the active portion of the device. Worked closely with the manufacturing and reliability divisions for preparation of Telcordia testing.
