I am the Department Chair for Engineering, Electronics, and Computer Technology at Ivy Tech Community College, as of 1/1/22. A new opportunity to expand my areas of responsibility. At ISU is was essentially responsible for my own classes. Now I have to (or get to, depending on your perspective) be responsible fore a broader range of curricular, administrative, and personnel kinds of things, in addition to the teaching.I taught in ECET (Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology) at ISU for five and a half years, primarily junior and senior undergraduates in Information Technology and Computer Engineering Technology. I have earned CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications while doing so, along with ISU’s Online Instructor certification. Previous experiences include project management, I.T. management, and software development. Other dubiously measurable skills include marriage maintenance (many years happily married), parenting (2 young-adult daughters), and music (drums since high school, guitar over the past five years).I love most of my job, and my most measures I'm successful at it, but there are reasons to consider other opportunities. I am as skeptical as anyone about academics who say they "know" what it takes to succeed in the real world, but I'm willing to put in the effort to become valuable and successful. I would most enjoy (I think) a software development role, but will consider other job descriptions.
