After 38 years with boutique and global law firms in NYC, I launched Schiffer Law & Consulting PLLC. I have substantial experience in trying reinsurance arbitrations for cedents and reinsurers in both property/casualty and life. I also have significant experience in handling a wide range of insurance and reinsurance coverage, claims, insolvency, runoff, and related issues and disputes in both court or before arbitration panels. I have significant experience in advising on insurance and reinsurance contract wording for both insurance and reinsurance companies and non-insurance clients. I am involved in the intersection between insurance and technology, especially with cybersecurity and cyber insurance issues. Below are some of the cases I have handled.• Representing a cedent in an economically significant reinsurance dispute over the scope of reinsurance coverage provided in a specialty treaty• Represented a retrocedent in a life reinsurance dispute over unilateral termination rights for in-force business• Represented first named insurance carrier plaintiff in a major action over insurance coverage for personal injuries arising out of mild traumatic brain trauma of former NFL players• Represented insurers in the World Trade Center respiratory injuries coverage litigation with the WTC Captive arising out of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center• Represented lead blanket bond insurer in a declaratory judgment action concerning claims arising out of the Madoff Ponzi scheme• Represented a major reinsurer in the Unicover debacle in a confidential multi-party arbitration and related litigation• Performed reinsurance due diligence for numerous insurance and non-insurance corporate transactionsI am available for independent consulting opportunities, including advice to C-suite leaders on insurance and reinsurance issues, contract wording, cyber insurance issues, insurance and reinsurance thought leadership, due diligence, claims evaluations, underwriting and claims compliance with contract wording and other complex insurance and reinsurance issues that in-house counsel may not have the time to address. I also am an ARIAS-U.S. certified qualified mediator.I now swim on average six days a week and enjoy (when we could) traveling and cruising, family genealogy research, photography and my grandchildren.
