At Tractor Supply, I was responsible for all aspects of store operations. I managed the receiving operations for unloading of all trucks and Receiving and Inventory integrity. I was in charge of Front-End operations, including cash office and customer service. All feed orders and most larger bulk ordering were not handled by DC so I monitered daily sales and customer rquests to ensure we had the right product at the right time. I was also solely responsible for reviewing the P&L, general ledgers, budgets and payroll. I also was involved in most hiring, staffing and training at our store, as well as for new stores opening in the outlying area.

I was the Operations Manager for Toys R Us. I oversaw the daily operations of the store in the Back-of-House as well as through the Front-End. Responsiblities included maintaining payroll, schedule writing, driving sales and specific selling metrics, as well as overseeing the inbound freight operation and storing of merchandise in the backroom. I drive sales daily through several tracking tools and motivate the team to specific items set out in the selling metrics. Training and development is a major focus of mine as it is imperative that my people have the tools they need to get the job done. As a manager, I can only be in the store so many hours a week and I need to give my team the proper tools to maintain the standards whether I am there or not. I was also a go-to person for various district programs the company had developed to upgrade the stores.

I worked for Wegmans for 20 years. In that time I gained experience in all aspects of the retail food industry. I started in warehouse operations, working in Inventory Control and Transportation. My responsibilities involved maintaining the integrity warehouse Inventory and making any adjustments needed. In Transportation, I scheduled all the inbound freight into the Grocery Warehouse and communicated with buyers and the dock supervisor to prioritize deliveries. I then spent 16 years working in store operations. I have successfully managed Seafood, Health Food, Produce, and Front-End departments. The variety of managers I worked for gave me a strong understanding of the bottom line. In the departments I managed, we saw considerable growth in sales and increased gross profits through a variety of systems I put in to play. I believe in a knowledge-based selling culture. If your team does not know all the ins and outs of your product, how can they talk intelligently to the consumer? Wegmans taught me that it is not enough to take care of your customers; you must first take care of your employees. If you create an environment that makes your employees enjoy coming to work and doing their job, then that excitement will spill over to your customers. It also must be a priority that they have the proper tools and knowledge to get the job done. The departments I have managed range in size from 20 to 250. I have also been involved in training other department managers and store managers on how to use the sales data systems available to track Sales, Gross Profits, Shrink and Contribution. I was also fully trained on the Labor Resource Management system used to schedule employees for our automated time clock system. I wrote department schedules for as many as 250 people. I was directly involved with the team that put together the presentation for Best Places To Work for the first year Wegmans was selected as the #1 Company to Work For by Fortune magazine.
