Lazy Day Ranch is using innovative techniques to restore abandoned farmland to a productive state. The restoration solution we are employing is a set of processes for restoring degraded, abandoned land to a productive, carbon-sequestering state. We have adopted regenerative agricultural practices that restore depleted soil to reverse land degradation and create habitat for native species to thrive. Techniques include Organic No-Till planting; Cover Crops chosen for their ability to add nitrogen and other nutrients into the soil; composting for reuse of organic materials; and management of natural indigenous forestry. This solution replaces the conventional practices of abandoning degraded property to invasive species and non-productive erosion. According to REGENERATION.ORG:"Approximately 25 percent of all land on earth exists in a degraded condition. Restoring it to health will sequester large amounts of atmospheric carbon in the soil, feed millions of people, improve wildlife habitat, and make water more abundant."Plants do two things for the environment absorb and essentially breathe Carbon Dioxide (CO2) expelling Oxygen back into the atmosphere and filtering water. With better air to breathe, better ground to grow food in, and cleaner water the world will be a better place.

  Using an adaptive approach to regenerative agriculture I am working to improve “Clean Farming Practices” and show how it produces clean air and preserves the clarity of water. Both elements, vital to future reduction of negative effects driven by past practices across all industries. To this end I have been working on restoring degraded soils through no-till planting, extremely limited use of herbicide, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers and improving the balance between nature and human needs. Interestingly, the best practice to manage a specific ecosystem is in a way that closely mimics nature itself. In some cases, this means removing invasive cultivars and re-introducing native species. This applies to and includes animals, insects, and plant life.Keeping habitat available for native species also assists in keeping the ecosystem healthy and working. Trees and green fields help clean the air and the water and these processes are a continuous cycle. Given enough time and good stewardship of these crops will result in a significant improvement to the world's global environment.
