CO2 is a huge problem. However much more importantly the world’s in the midst of a CH4 crisis: hundreds of millions of years of stored pre-historic methane clathrate (methane ice) deposits primarily under the polar regions and oceans are beginnning to directly sublimate from solid ice to gaseous state and have recently surpassed man made sources as the main source of atmospheric CH4. Unlike man made sources we can’t easily control natural sublimation rates…. and CH4 is much worst as a greenhouse gas. Unless immediate intense action is taken, it appears we are unfortunately headed directly into a global CH4 runaway thermal catastrophe.Please see the latest data we have, understand that trend completely. As a planet and a responsible global civilization we must immediately move to renewablables if there's to be any chance of survival.https://www.methanelevels.orgWeeks later.... sorry, finally had a moment to add this.... couldn't leave it with that terrible future looming, didn't feel right..... more recently, took an afternoon to make some simplification & approximation assumptions (couldn't find all the actual necessary values easily), and derive a quick back-of-the-envelope-order-of-magnitide-first-approximation planetary goal for installed PV (please feel free to verify, correct, etc., however out of desperation anything is going to work better than nothing in this case, it's clearly an initial starting point to help guide essential process & progress). A goal we can focus on, work towards and easily achieve. Assuming geothermal & wind can perhaps provide at least an equal share, we may only need to achieve an additional 1,000 times the roughly 5 gigaWatts of PV already installed to counter balance the CH4 release resulting from the melting permafrost. The path forward would also provide many other future benefits for the entire planet. Now that's a worthy, achievable and definitely DOABLE goal! Well what are you waiting for...?
