I do many jobs that are considered "typical" Graphic Designer duties, such as promotional flyers, brochures, advertising, newsletters and various other production printed items. However, most of my day is spent managing and creating most of the wide format printing, engraving, signage, trade show and promotional displays, posters, presentations, dye sublimation and trying to make every idea into a reality. But there is another side of my job is far from typical. On any given day I may start off by doing something as simple as making a laser engraved name tag and by the afternoon I could be making a display for the Biology Department that involves hand carving a foam base that is then covered in sand then mounted with marine life bones to represent how they would look washed up on a beach. I have also created several sculptures for the campus to be used as awards, signage and building enhancements. I would have to say that my 21 years at PSU have made my problem solving abilities my strongest asset. I love a challenge and try not to tell anyone that what they want is too much for me to handle. I use several tools to do my job such as: high end digital copiers, wide format printer, wide format vinyl cutter, laser engraver, binding machines, dye sublimation printer and heat press and obviously a computer and several different software packages. Those include the current Adobe Suite, Corel Draw, Power Point, Excel and various others. And I continue to take classes and attend trade shows and demonstrations to learn more to be able to offer my customers more. Everyone on campus knows that there are no ideas too crazy to ask me about and that I will do my best to make the impossible possible. I have even been asked to help other Universities in their projects or with problems they may be having in creating something.

When I was brought into this company, the ownership had just changed hands. They had little to no art department at that time, so I was hired to create the art department and make it a bridge between the sales staff and the production crew to produce the most effective finished product possible. I started by improving the mock ups and the sales tools the sales staff used to show potential customers the layout of their billboards. Then I updated and streamlined how that information was produced and transferred to the production crew. All of which involved new equipment and procedures I knew very little about that early in my career. I did my research and worked very hard and long hours and created a very effective and efficient Art Department and was credited for increasing sales.
