I love solving puzzles! …always have…In fact, I’ve made a career of it.Ever since I was a child solving word searches at the dentist’s office in Highlights Magazine, I’ve been intrigued with solving puzzles of all kinds. Today, as a Market Research professional, I not only solve puzzles but get to answer critical business questions and see growth and innovation as a result. As I reflect on my career so far, there are two key themes that I notice: Creating Something New and Developing People. The most consistent theme is Creating Something New. Today, I'm fortunate enough to be starting up a new business - my own analytics, research and consulting firm, LA Newman Solutions - offering total process thinking, lean/six sigma process improvement tools and techniques in conjunction with HR, Operations and Client Management solutions. Consulting, Analytics and People - my skill set trifecta!Creativity began in my first job at P&G when I worked on a team that was creating a new methodology to determine the incremental brand volume due to promotion. Even in my last role at Nielsen I was asked to pioneer a new methodology with new clients in isolating the impact of consumer response to Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability programs. I LOVE being creative! As for finding personal reward in my work, nothing comes closer than observing my team members succeeding after having worked with them. Coaching, developing and mentoring are essential to the future and I hope to have many more opportunities to help those who follow me. And now I can see improvements that I've helped my clients achieve. So, whether I'm focused on data, consumers, qualitative or quantitative research, advanced analytics (such as marketing mix, price/promotion, assortment modeling, price elasticity or brand health), client/customer relationships, or even business process improvement or project management – I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.

Business Development RepresentativeTempology Staffing May 2017 - Dec 2017I've been brought on to develop relationships & contract with companies that staff temporary positions to assist them in finding and placing qualified candidates. We are currently staffing positions and adding more opportunities every day. What makes us different to our client companies is that we apply Lean/Six Sigma tools & techniques to their workforce planning process to strip out cost and waste. From there, we help optimize the workforce mix and ensure the right people are in the right spots. Of course I couldn't do this job without conducting some research. Most of the companies I've connected with complain about retention issues among their hourly/temp staff so I want to get to the bottom of that. There are logical and emotional factors influencing people's decisions to take, keep or leave a job and I believe that the company that understands those factors and addresses them will have a more satisfied, productive and retained workforce. See my article to learn more.I'm thrilled to be doing this work because it's a tough market out there and using data, research and networking I believe this agency has the potential to change how staffing and recruiting is successfully done in the 21st century.

Brand/Marketing Specialist For Cdk GlobalInsight Global Feb 2016 - Mar 2016Atlanta, Georgia, UsI was asked to take on a 2-month project as a contractor as a way of dipping my toe into the freelance arena and I must say I truly enjoyed it. While doing contract work and not having a steady salary is new to me and a bit scary, learning more for others who do it to find out how they manage working and campaigning for new work simultaneously. This project really came down to helping one of CDK Gobal's HR Departments by taking action steps towards improving their reputation among candidates, employees and recruiting/review websites. The net of is that bad reviews are out there due to CDK's massive changeover from being a division of ADP to their own company. Please are nervous, afraid, anxious, frustrated and angry so they are publicly saying bad things about CDK thus scaring off a good portion of quaity candidates for their open positions. Our work was to develop ways of analyzing, reporting and responding to certain negative reviews. Leverage internal stakeholders at CDK to generate some positive reviews and other ideas they may have to improve the reputation and attract top talent. There were larger implications though on senior leadership engagement, change management, corporate communications and more. Great first contract to work on, can't wait for more! -
Global Director Of Analytics - Public Development & SustainabilityNielsen Oct 2013 - Mar 2015New York, Ny, UsMY BIGGEST REWARD: Re-discovering my passion for my work. I wouldn't say I'd lost my passion, but being placed in an important role to help our company make a difference in social, environmental and health & wellness made me feel alive and that my work matters.MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Proving the unproveable. The "holy grail" of Sustainability is the proof that these programs deliver measurable incremental business growth beyond traditional consumer purchase drivers. It has yet to be proven, but I saw this as another challenge and one I'm very willing to pick up again and work towards in a new capacity.WHAT HAVE I CARRIED FORWARD: Energy, excitement and enthusiasm! I am excited to move on to my next role, wherever that may be. My last position found my passion again - now I'm ready to put it to practice.EXAMPLE: Please see below a PDF file (in public domain) highlighting some of our first analytic work on establishing this new team and our relevance with corporations, NGO's and governments world-wide.Please use the link below if you are on a mobile device:https://www.dropbox.com/s/wsgqe3jbew4c5xa/Nielsen%20Global%20Corporate%20Social%20Responsibility%20Report%20-%20June%202014.pdf?dl=0 -
Global Director, Market InsightsNielsen Jan 2011 - Sep 2013New York, Ny, UsMY BIGGEST REWARD: Developing a skill set that now includes Global experience. I will be forever thankful for having had the opportunity to work as an ex-pat in the UK. MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Combining the compassion and championing skills of Client Relationship Management with the tough and hard-nosed attitude of a Contract Negotiator. I watched my manager at the time walk this balance with grace and finesse. This is perhaps one of the most incredible balancing acts I've ever witnessed.WHAT HAVE I CARRIED FORWARD: An appreciation for and ability to influence and succeed in a multicultural role. Working on this contract negotiation that spanned 72 countries and valued over 5 years at a half-billion Euros was a reward itself.Additionally, I had the opportunity to work on the Deployment team once the contract was signed. This exposed me to critical processes that are part of traditional Project Management and Change Management. In my role, I acted as Global Change Management Leader which gave me experience in assessing client needs, designing training materials and setting up processes for end user rollout that would result in rapid user acceptance and minimize the time to go through the Change Cycle to full adoption. -
Black Belt, Business Process ImprovementNielsen Sep 2008 - Dec 2010New York, Ny, UsMY BIGGEST REWARD: Learning and adapting LEAN and Six Sigma tools and techniques in a non-traditional business environment. How great it was to merge statistics, analytics, problem solving and client relationship management into a single role.MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Walking into a new business at Nielsen, knowing little or nothing about it, and challenging an organization to make improvements of 50% or more when they had traditionally been satisfied with something like 5-10% improvements. It was a challenge I learned to accept and relish.WHAT HAVE I CARRIED FORWARD: I had the opportunity to improve not only process and efficiency, but morale, attitudes and very emotional components of people's work life. In one retailer, our BPI approach changed a client relationship and gave someone their life back. I'll never forget the feeling of satisfaction I received from the work I did in BPI. -
Director & Vp, Us Client ServiceNielsen Dec 1999 - Aug 2008New York, Ny, UsMY BIGGEST REWARD: Developing several key leadership and management skills. Here is where I watched one of my two greatest managers do amazing things. They taught me by example how to think with strategic purpose and how to leverage teamwork and the organization to deliver on a vision.MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Working with an unhappy client. I had the opportunity to take over management of one of our clients who were extremely dissatisfied with their service. I won't say I was able to turn them around (I wasn't), but the listening, championing and relationship management skills I acquired in this role will help me when things aren't perfect.WHAT HAVE I CARRIED FORWARD: Client Relationship Management is one competency I consider a strength of mine. I am very concerned about making sure my client gets value from the work my team and I do. They need to always be considered and the more you know about the people you're supporting, the better you can support them. -
VpIri Nov 1993 - Jun 1998Chicago, Il, UsMY BIGGEST REWARD: Discovering the importance of bringing 100% of myself to work each day.MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Facing a dismal beginning at this company, I discovered my creative side. I was doing something I had never done before and wasn't doing very well until I merged what I had to do with what I already knew from P&G and found a way to turn failure into huge success.WHAT HAVE I CARRIED FORWARD: That creative flair. From here forward, I will always be myself and put myself into my work. Since this time, I've had the opportunity to affect corporate policy, be a champion of minorities at work, and see the value of diversity and inclusion when recruiting new team members. -
Market Systems ManagerProcter & Gamble Jun 1984 - Oct 1993Cincinnati, Ohio, UsMY BIGGEST REWARD: 10 years with Procter & Gamble. These formative years are the foundation of a career I am most proud of. Business Writing Skills, Effective Leadership Skills, Motivating and Influencing, Vendor Management, Managing for Profit, Quality Assessment, Team Leadership, Coaching and Developing Others...all are trainings that got their start at P&G.MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Getting over myself in my post-graduate years. Who didn't start their career thinking they were special? It took some time and working with some very seasoned and smart professionals to learn how to apply humility and listening into my day-to-day work with others.WHAT HAVE I CARRIED FORWARD: Nearly everything. P&G is training you don't forget - and I am successful today because of the time I spent there.
