WhoPlusYou Inc. is a web based services company that has developed a portfolio of technologies that accurately match market needs (jobs, portfolio investments, personal peering) with individuals’ skills and objectives. Once matched people can connect instantly and share media interactively. Individuals now have new and completely differentiated career management tool. Employers now have a way to build a highly qualified candidate funnel, and stay connected with that talent.Was initially brought into the company to analyze the existing software, database and infrastructure and identify bottlenecks that would limit scalability as the use and deployment of the software surged into a significant growth phase. After completing the analysis, I was asked to join the team as a Senior Technical Advisor and, in that role, led the development team through a series of code and platform refactorings to remove those bottlenecks and which increased the scalability of the platform by orders of magnitude. This included moving the infrastructure from leased hardware in a datacentre to a dynamic, and far more scalable, reliable, and cost effective, infrastructure based on Amazon Web Services. On this new platform, changes to the database schema and the code increased performance by orders of magnitude while reducing database load by a similar amount. Designed and implemented the schema and core software changes necessary to prepare the software for internationalization and instituted a series of best practises that the development team is using to reduce errors and improve productivity.

The Vault of Satoshi is a Canadian based, rapidly growing, virtual currency trading platform supporting the exchange of many virtual currencies, of which Bitcoin is the best known, for worldwide customers.I was brought in less than a month after the company was formed, initially for a security audit and some advice, but ended up getting deeply involved. Two of us wrote all the code that was eventually launched in October 2013. Among numerous other things, I designed and wrote the core trading engine for speed, reliability, fault-tolerance and fail-safe behaviour as well as the easy ability to add new coins for trading. Also designed and implemented the platform API that allows for programmatic trading and monitoring of activity. We received multiple unsolicited comments that our API was fantastic, and definitely the best documented, of the APIs of all competing platforms worldwide. In addition, designed and implemented a monitoring system that notified administrators instantly if anything went wrong anywhere across the code running on the dozens of servers supporting the platform.

Generalized the existing asynchronous I/O architecture in the Unix version of DB/2 to reduce code complexity, increase the amount of platform independent code and increase performance.

Formed a new department responsible for managing technical co-development with SCO's strategic partners including Oracle, Computer Associates, IBM, Informix, Sybase, Progress, Netscape, Parasoft, and many others. Recruited staff in Toronto, California, New Jersey and England to support these partners. Travelled extensively to meet with these customers, plan engagements and allocate staff.

Formed and led the teams that added support for Novell's IPX/SPX protocol stack and NetWare filesystem interoperability to the SCO Unix family of products. Developed strategy, formed relationships with Novell and select customers, analyzed third party technology offerings and negotiated license agreements for the required technology components. Acted as the software architect for these teams, providing detailed technical direction for the projects.

These project included device drivers, internationalization of software, applications and ports of Unix to various machine, including SMP machines such as the Control Data Cyber 180 mainframe.Ported the BSD debugger, dbx, to the Unix System V architecture and led the efforts which turned it into a product dbXtra for HCR and eventually part of the SCO Development Suite of tools.
