About Larry Soon

Politics has been my passion ever since I was elected in 2001. Being the youngest State Assemblyman in Malaysian history (22 years and 13 days) I managed difficult situations in a challenging environment, often with people from all stratas of society.I always believe in bringing positive change to people who needed it most, and I worked relentlessly towards that goal. To date, one of my notable achievements is to provide ease of access for the poor to receive higher education. In 2001, I established my own education fund and had disbursed grants to over 1,500 students over a period of 20 years.I managed to retain my state seat for two consecutive terms and was appointed an Assistant Minister at the age of 25 years old. After I left politics in 2011, I pursued a career in the agriculture sector. I had also gained experience managing companies in MICE tourism, publishing and construction. In 2018, I contested in the general election and was successfully elected in the parliamentary seat of Julau as an independent candidate. Shortly after I joined the government through Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and was elected into their central leadership committee. In 2021, I left PKR and declared myself as a government leaning independent and shortly after I joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and was elected their President in 2022.In the span of 20 years, I have travelled to over 1,000 longhouses often disbursing funds to the poor to build much needed basic infrastructure (roads and bridges) and to connect them to clean water and electricity.
