About Lawrence Van Ness

Engineering Technician with 29 years of experience maintaining, repairing and optimizing air traffic control and weather radar systems. Proven performer with demonstrated ability to develop working relationships with technicians, engineers and vendors supporting the National Airspace System (NAS). Skilled at troubleshooting complex equipment issues under adverse conditions in the field or remotely. Well versed in communicating radar performance issues in written reports and briefing customers and management. The last 15 years I have applied this experience performing emergency restoral, engineering support, and radar system optimization for the FAA and USAF worldwide. When not performing field support, I continuously improve work products, refine technical procedures, field modification instructions, perform test and development engineering support while evaluating radar system performance to establish standards for certification. I routinely share knowledge and experience with colleagues and gladly provide training for engineers and technicians--topics include transmitter repair and tuning, radar optimization, test equipment, and system troubleshooting. Throughout my career I have attained Quality Assurance, Network, Security, and Process Improvement credentials. Presently, I am pursuing a Data Science and Cybersecurity degree where I am becoming certified in RedHat Linux and learning to apply SQL, Python, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for radar system data analysis in order to support data driven decisions.
