BynaLogic was a bootstrapped IoT startup that I embarked on after my tenure at Direct Supply, when I knew enough technology fundamentals to believe I could solve the ambitious problems I wanted to tackle but lacked the business insight to make that sustainable. 😂 In hindsight, my two years of full-time work on this really amounted to self-directed postgraduate studies in what at the time were groundbreaking technology innovations.I am grateful to have been an early adopter of:▸Cloud-native microservice orchestration (via Azure Service Fabric; Kubernetes did not exist yet)▸Offline-capable single page web applications (via Knockout and HTML5 cache manifests; React and Service Workers did not exist yet)▸Real-time collaborative applications using conflict-free replicated data types (CRDTs) and SignalR▸Event sourcing, CQRS, and domain-driven design techniques▸ZeroMQ for reliable, low latency interprocess communicationTwo solutions are still in production from that era:▸WorkSense™, a mission-critical system for integrating assembly lines with ERP systems that reliably handles over a million discrete manufacturing signals per day with >99.99% combined availability over the past decade▸Event Hub Publisher, a cost-optimized, offline-capable, store-and-forward IoT Edge module for pushing real-time telemetry from the factory floor to Azure Event Hubs

I'm forever grateful to the Cornerstone team for recruiting and mentoring me, for inspiring my love of consulting as a unique blend of my dual passions for developing technology solutions and teaching people, and for launching my career as a software architect.

I cut my teeth on distributed system design and software architecture concepts during my 7-year "internship" (more of an apprenticeship) and contractor work at Direct Supply, an early pioneer of large-scale ecommerce built on EDI integrations, web frontends, and a highly tuned combination of batch and transaction processing running on the Microsoft stack.This is where I learned to love digging deeply into—and thoroughly understanding—whatever technology I'm working with. It's also where I picked up my passion for good user experience design and first experienced the benefits of amazing mentorship.Highlights of my tenure:▸Led a cross-functional year-long DevOps automation initiative on TFS 2008 that automated build & deploy cycles for 5 million LOC (ASP.NET Web Forms & MVC, classic ASP, COM).▸Designed highly optimized SQL Server solutions for compression of telemetry data and high-performance transactional batch processing of millions of records.▸Built the company's first external-facing WCF web service, used daily by their largest customer for user access management integration.▸Developed and maintained multiple in-house applications using a mix of VB6, C++, and C# with user interfaces built in GDI+/WinForms, WPF, and MMC snap-in controls as well as reliable batch processing.▸Served as the technology analyst for a cross-functional competitive intelligence team that reported to the CMO.▸Introduced and owned a MediaWiki cluster (with SSO) for organization-wide documentation, pioneering the use of Linux for hosting application services in the organization.
