My name is Lars Maas and I am currently doing the master Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the VU and UvA. I really enjoy being able to use programming as a tool for science purposes.Before this master I got a bachelor in bioinformatics and successfully finished an education in biotechnology.Outside of school I enjoy doing sports like freerunning and calisthenics, hanging with friends and researching topics related to health.

During this internship I worked on predicting myelofibrosis in bone marrow biopsy slides. This was done by first segmenting cells in these slides using an FCNN. After this, different image analysis techniques were used to extract features commonly found with myelofibrosis. A random forest was trained using these features to predict myelofibrosis.

During this internship I calculated the correlation between the protein expression and drug sensitivity of different cancer cell lines. These correlations were then visualised in different ways in an interactive report. The R programming language was used for this.
