What drives me most is the wish that humans and other life on earth can live as much as possible healthily, harmoniously and sustainably together on our planet, now and in the future. Of course, this universal ambition is too big for humanity, let alone for a single human, to fulfill. But I am ambitious and idealistic, and I have great concerns about current problems that threaten welfare for all of us in the near and far future: climate change, drought, biodiversity collapse, overpopulation; and their ramifications, like conflicts, mass migration, poverty, shortages, systemic collapses.Societies and governments have slowly moved from debating about how big these problems are, to acknowledging that they are huge and that we must work hard to solve them. And we can partially solve at least the climate and biodiversity problems, and we broadly know what to do. But the tasks ahead are huge, as is the number and the variety of people needed to accomplish them.I want to be one of those many people needed, in some way or another, for the sustainability transition. I can imagine myself doing different types of work within the transition: thinking, planning, researching, consulting, computing, modeling, designing, developing, programming, machine learning, teaching, debating; to name just some.Some fields that especially (but not exclusively) attract me, are: renewable energy, hydrogen economy, electricity network transition, sociology and economics, econometrics, biodiversity and nature preservation, water management, agricultural sustainability, supply chain sustainability.The main professional value of my studies (mathematics BSc and MSc) is that I was trained to become skilled at analyzing, reasoning, problem solving and creative thinking. I believe that especially creativity is important for any progress.Furthermore, I obtained a broad general knowledge because I am widely interested and read and listen a lot (newspapers, books, podcasts); and from the 200+ students that I trained, most of them university students, in fields as diverse as statistics, data analytics, social sciences, econometrics and finance, machine learning and AI, programming, biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry. By running my tutoring enterprise, I also nurtured my social skills, empathy, efficiency and entrepreneurship. I get a lot of energy from the social aspects of work.Finally, by working more than a year in a middle sized IT- and consultancy-company, I learned a lot about IT, programming, machine learning, AI, business, and teamwork.
