More than 9 years now I have been living on Bonaire in the Caribean. I have made one of my passions, diving, into my job, by working as a full time dive instructor, course director (which means I am allowed to train new PADI dive instructors), trimix instructor and up to 50 meters /165 feet I am also trimix instructor trainer.What strikes me most is that so many of the qualities I used as a business analist, project manager and in contract negotiations are still so valid. What is the individual need of the customer? Yes PADI or system suites provide generic solutions, but how do I tailor these to the specific need of the customer.Considering all circumstances what are the steps to take to minimize risks. That was what I was doing as a project manager and that is what I am doing on a daily basis as a dive instructor and what I did within projects and when reviewing contracts and maintaining SLAs with vendors. And in diving just like in any other business there is always an inherent risk, that can't be mitigated.I like when my customers are happy and satisfied, even though I sometimes need to give a firm no. When I do so, I will explain why I say no, for exmaple if deadlines can't be met, safety will jeopardized, governing rules will be broken.And again this applies for both my work in ICT and is my current profession.
