Essentially, the thin film bends… Show more In this research, a recent study regarding mechanical oscillatory behaviour in photoresponsive thin films of liquid crystal networks is continued from a dynamical systems perspective. Dynamic models are made and quantitatively analysed with respect to the findings and observations of conducted experiments. The unique structural properties and composition of the liquid crystal network film provide it with a characteristic responsiveness to light and temperature. Essentially, the thin film bends when irradiated and, under the right circumstances, starts to oscillate in stable fashion. When a rectangular piece of thin film is given an incision, the two sections of film are able to oscillate separately but remain coupled by the plastic that connects one another. The incised film then classifies as a pair of coupled oscillators that display synchronized motion. The most common synchronization states of in- and anti-phase behaviour are easily recognized and indicate a simple coupling, however, other oscillations that are observed seem highly irregular and odd but when examined more closely appear to be periodic, meaning that there has to be a more complex coupling between one another.
