About Cheryl Larsen

I enjoy working with teams to create - create products, create systems, create value for the organizations that we support. Collaboration and creative problem solving generate energy that feeds the process and creates enthusiasm to do one’s best. It is the teams involved, how they interact and treat each other that make the difference between just delivering and delivering with excellence.I have experience with multiple frameworks (from Waterfall to Scrum) and a track record of delivering successful, complex application development projects, partnering with business and technology teams. An effective communicator at all organizational levels, a strong team player, a fast learner, I adapt quickly to changing circumstances while maintaining focus on the end goal.I am ready for a new challenge...

  • Charles Schwab
    Senior Project Management Consultant
    Charles Schwab Oct 2011 - Jun 2015
    San Francisco Bay Area
I worked as a consultant on a long-term, strategic project that required the participation of many teams across Schwab to implement a new trading flow for its retirement business, managing the work in two of the three major domains affected - Schwab Bank and Schwab Broker Dealer. It represented about a fifth of the estimated $50MM project budget but over half of the actual work effort. The key word here is complexity - We implemented a new order trading flow across a multiplicity of systems, platforms, business, development and QA teams, methodologies and team cultures. It also crossed Schwab boundaries to connect to external market makers. It was a challenging project, requiring commitment and adeptness in juggling the needs of the project timeline with the demands placed on the teams from other efforts. But, it was also fun and I’m pleased to say that the initial launch went smoothly and was delivered within budget and on time. In my remaining time, I managed a number of smaller projects that made enhancements to the newly launched product.
  • Charles Schwab
Director, Project Services, Central Project Management Office
    Charles Schwab 2008 - 2010
    San Francisco, Ca
After Schwab centralized its project management resources, I happily returned to the Project Manager role, rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty. :)As a senior member of the team, I managed large initiatives, often inheriting those that were struggling in some fashion because I’m effective at evaluating issues, identifying critical path tasks and working with teams to re-organize the project focus and approach. These efforts always required that I understand the business value for the development effort and often provided opportunities to further develop my relationship building, facilitation and negotiation skills, working across business and technology teams.
  • Charles Schwab
Director, Project Management, Retirement Business Services
    Charles Schwab 2004 - 2008
    San Francisco, Ca
Eventually I was offered a management position, leading the Project Management team in the Retirement Services area of Schwab. This team delivered the project portfolio for the retirement channel year over year. The position required facilitation of the project selection and budget process, providing oversight and ensuring delivery on all the projects in the portfolio and maintenance and career development of the project team members. The best part of the role was helping the team members become better project managers. When a new skill or concept clicked and they became more effective at their job, then handling the other challenges that management presented was worth it.
  • Charles Schwab
Senior Project Manager, Retirement Business Services
    Charles Schwab 2000 - 2003
    San Francisco, Ca
I transitioned from contractor to full-time employee during a project in 2000 after working with Schwab as a contractor in preparation for Y2K. I managed multiple projects over the subsequent few years, delivering websites, making changes to trading systems, introducing new products while supporting regulatory driven projects. As the project manager for these, I was accountable for delivery of the end product and was expected to manage all aspects of the project in partnership with business and technology teams, including project kickoff, team formation, requirements, issues and risk management, tracking development, testing, marketing and roll out plans, production implementation and handoff to support resources.
