My Ph.D. was focused on making better catalysts for decarbonization reactions. I primarily focused on the conversion of glucose to lactic acid, a building block toward a carbon-neutral plastic. As part of this effort I successfully characterized two previously-unknown phases of copper which allowed me to design a catalyst that improved yields by 288%. Additionally, I served as lab manager for two years and coordinated the acquisition of over $250k of analytical equipment.

This role was part of a 6-month internship supported by the SCGSR award. My work here supported my Ph.D. focus on making better catalysts for reactions focused on decarbonization. I also assisted in developing soft X-ray characterization for electrochemistry and am designing an electrochemical cell for operando characterization.
