While finalizing the postgraduate D.Sc. studies on biomedical engineering focusing on ballistocardiography (BCG) I was developing a chair having several integrated sensors mainly for measuring the dynamic forces originating inside the person sitting on the chair (cardiac functions, respiration and muscle activity). The chair was for cardiovascular diagnostic including also special electrodes on hand-rests for ECG and a cuff for blood pressure as well as microphones on back-rest for recording internal sounds of the body. My work included the whole design from chair mechanics, sensors, electronics, data acquisition to signal analysis and user interface. I also created the calibration systems for the chair. The chair was used in cardiovascular assessment and it was also widely featured in media. In 2006 I founded own company Beddit (www.beddit.com) around the BCG method and the patented sensor invention before the doctoral thesis was finalized.I was also involved in other projects including the smart floor detecting the presence and number of the persons in the room, detecting falling of a person and capable of measuring respiration and heart rate of a person lying on the floor. My work in this project included helping with the sensor tech and electronics but mainly in data acquisition, signal analysis and UI. The technology has also been commercialized (www.elsitechnologies.com/index.php/en/).My teaching responsibilities included creating and lecturing a major course on electronics, bio-sensors and embedded systems including lab works for students studying bioinformatics. I also attended as a speaker in several seminars on biomedical engineering.During my M.Sc. studies I designed electronics, embedded systems including firmware as well as signal analysis and UIs in several projects related to BCG, health and audio. I was also teaching embedded systems and electronics on several lab works related to different courses.

While on leave from my work at the University in Finland I joined the Datex-Ohmeda's Australian team in Sydney. Most of my time I was with the Oceanic sales and marketing team doing marketing research for growth opportunities as well as creating tools for easier on-line tender process. Part of my time I was with the biomedical engineering team working with the anesthesia delivery and monitoring equipment (calibration and maintenance). I left the company and returned to work for the University after GE Healthcare acquired Datex-Ohmeda. After the acquisition and before leaving the company I was working for a very short time also for GE Healthcare.
