Sole site-level responsibility for ensuring yearly revenue of $350M and managing $5M site budget. Directly manages all aspects of operations including day-to-day site operations, staff and equipment. Management of $100K to $3M site projects including Statement of Work and contract negotiations. Lead in major planned maintenance activities while safeguarding minimized impact to end-users. Directing real time emergency recovery operations with multinational teams across the globe. Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including HQ executive management, US military and commercial partners. Regular contribution to the direction of network operations. Direct supervision over team of 12+ engineering/operations personnel ensuring systems availability at site are kept well above industry standards. With intense focus on budget, system availability has been kept above the performance target primarily by setting up a positive work environment that fosters staff professional growth and promoting personal ownership. Proverbial ‘go-to guy’ and Subject Matter Expert in multiple areas of satellite communication including end-to-end Quality Of Service management.

Championed drive to the successful operational readiness of the newest Inmarsat site spanning all aspects of the SAS Engineering Readiness Campaign. Responsibilities included setting up site procedures, RF systems, IP networks, network monitoring, and personnel training. Sole development of critical monitoring tools deployed to other Inmarsat SAS sites globally. Expansion of monitoring tools to include mobile device platforms creating custom applications for BlackBerry, IOS, and Android, used by engineers and senior executive management to monitor live system status and global traffic levels.

Managed an engineering team of 3 satellite system engineers. Creation of BGAN User Terminal specifications, low level system debugging and equipment manufacture type approvals.

Copenhagen Area, Denmark

Ensured Inmarsat $15M+ investment in BGAN user terminal development at Thrane & Thrane was executed to Inmarsat specifications and within agreed schedule. Reported back to BGAN program management in HQ and performed all project management tasks to facilitate successful contractual compliance. Served as ‘point-of-contact’ for all contract related queries/issues. Wrote test documentation for BGAN vendor type approvals. Expanded BGAN system definition specifications to include MAC layers.

London, United Kingdom

Specified protocols and physical layer of the BGAN system focusing on the lower layer of the communication protocols. Worked with contractors and equipment manufactures to ensure BGAN specification was tailored to fit current hardware and DSP capabilities, while obtaining as high efficiency as possible (bit/Hz). Specifications included various modulation schemes and a punctured convolution code scheme (Turbo Codes) that achieved performances within 0.8 dB of the Shannon Limit.

RF front-end design and production of the Thrane & Thrane M4 terminal, including designing a Low Noise GaAs LNA first stage with better than 0.7 dB Noise Figure.
