Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Finland

Currently I am managing a "Circular Green Blocks - Sustainable City Quarters as Circular Economy Business Promoters" -partnership project. Aim of the project is to try out new and co-develop existing circular economy services in several pilot quarters around in Helsinki Metropolitan Area together with housing companies, enterprises and service users. Project is elaborated during 9/2021–8/2023 by Helsinki Region Environmental Services, Forum Virium Helsinki, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Aalto University. As the main coordination is in HSY, I am responsible of administration and overall progress of the project.Project helps companies to identify and develop business opportunities and housing companies, which promote the circular and sharing economy at block level, to be aware of their potential to implement circular economy solutions in their property and around the nearby block. The main target groups of the project are companies and housing companies that support digitalization and green growth developing solutions that utilize new technologies.In addition to trying out circular economy solutions, the project develops demonstrations based on housing company-specific 360 degree descriptions, 3D modelling and accurate digital environmental information, which will be presented to both potential service providers (e.g. real estate and spatial data companies) and customers (housing companies/residents). Different methods of co-development and meeting the demand and supply of solution needs are key methods of the project to improve business opportunities in the circular and sharing economy sector.In brief, the project promotes a sustainable living environment, a circular economy and a smart, functional city.Main funding of the project is provided by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Finland

During the year 2021 until September I mostly concentrated on composing a preliminary study of Regional Semantic 3D City Model of the Metropolitan area of Finland. The goal was to reconcile which arrangements would be preferred to compile 3D city models of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen and which sort of co-operation would be desirable among the aforementioned cities. Among the main occupation I have been working on assignments related to GIS. These include analyses and visualizations of commuting and variety of regional registers of the Metropolitan area. Analyses and visualizations been done by using QGIS, FME, Tableau etc. Previously in the organization from the year 2019 to 2020 I was working the Sustainable Living Friendship Experimentation -partnership project. The goal was to find ways to adapt sustainable everyday decisions among residents of two friendship housing companies by organizing events and excursions planned together with the residents. During the project I was responsible of project management – including implementation of the project, budgeting, subcontracting, reportage, documentation and both internal and external communication. Our project partner was Y-Säätiö which is a non-profit organization specialized in affordable housing. The project was part of the Sustainable City -program of the Ministry of the Environment.

Northern Patagonian Ice Field, Chile

Working in Colonia Valley in Sol de Mayo expedition base farm next to the Northern Patagonian Ice Field was a unique lesson with a versatile blend of GIS, survival skills, farm maintenance, teamwork, construction, cultivation and communication. My main task during the internship was to create interactive 3D-maps of three different treks around the rugged Patagonian landscape. As creating the maps, we walked 200+ kilometers collecting the coordinates to visualize both the trails on the map and to create the elevation models of the routes. During expeditions we guided altogether 30+ team members, clients, professors and university students through the trails.I was responsible of the external communication in the expeditions with satellite phone and satellite two-way-messaging device to daily inform a person outside the expedition that everything is alright and in the case of emergency to make a distress call for a rescue operation. To maintain the balance between computer work and handicraft, we constructed a sauna, 100 meters of fence and a greenhouse during the internship. Working on the farm with hands enabled a crucial break to find solutions for challenges and obstacles during mapmaking. Other tasks included the maintenance of the farm – pumping water, lawn mowing, sheering sheep, chopping firewood, feeding animals and implementing the logistics of food and other goods needed in Sol de Mayo. The internship was put in the practice in the co-operation of Finnish National Agency for Education, The Chilean Education Ministry and Patagonian Adventure Expeditions.

Helsinki Area, Finland

As a Cycling Customer Service Person, I guided 35 different nationalities to embrace the Helsinki and Espoo City Bike System. During the summer of 2018 I pedaled 3000+ kilometers around the cycling lanes of Helsinki and Espoo. I was in charge of the external communication in the social media networks of Helsinki City Bikes in Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I also fixed the minor defects of the city bikes on the field with a help of a mobile toolkit. The pilot project of assignment of Bicycle Guide was elaborated in co-operation with Helsinki Region Transport (HSL), Helsinki City Transport (HKL), City of Espoo and CityBike Finland Ltd.

While studying in the University, working part time as a bartender in various bars, nightclubs and festivals around the Helsinki metropolitan area helped to deal with challenging customer service situations and maintain the accuracy even when there was a rush.

Espoo

Working as an Assistant of an Environmental Educator I helped approximately 2500 children and teenagers of the ages between 5 and 15 to learn about phenomena in nature. Content included deepening the knowledge of emigrational birds, endemic mammals, microscopical insects, and surrounding flora. We also taught about the everyman’s rights when moving in the nature recreationally. Education was elaborated via lectures, excursions and games in the Environmental Education Center of Villa Elfvik.

Loviisa

Working in maintenance during a revision in the nuclear plant of Loviisa taught a lot of a process of producing nuclear energy in Finland. Challenging working conditions and sometimes very long working shifts helped maintain the accuracy and concentration even though the physical fatigue was truly present.

Espoo

Starting my work career as a teenager helped growing conscientiousness as delivering local newspaper of Espoo to approximately 250 households around in Tapiola. Running stairways up and down for four hours a week also helped to maintain physical fitness. Sports which you got paid of – what a perfect deal!
