Renewables.org is a nonprofit advancing solar investment in the Global South. I was recruited by Premal Shah, founder of Kiva.org, to found the organization – where we adapted Kiva’s crowdfunding model to create a new finance vertical for solar in developing regions.Before Renewables, I founded Legends Solar, a venture-backed startup that crowdfunded commercial solar in the U.S. While ultimately unsuccessful, the insights gained laid the groundwork for Renewables.• Integrated design, marketing, engineering, partnerships, and financing into a cohesive product.• Attracted over 1,000 users who actively contributed to projects on Renewables.org.• Achieved top rankings on Product Hunt and Hacker News during product launch.• Recruited co-founders to lead engineering and marketing initiatives.• Renewables.org continues to operate, raise funds, finance solar projects, and drive climate impact.
