Sulaimon Lateef A. is a purpose-driven Cancer Biologist and a research-oriented young man with over 6 years of teaching and research experience. His penchant for research and excellence is what stimulates in academic World. He is interested in research in the area of Molecular and Cancer Biology, Toxicology, Phytomedicine, Mitochondrial Biology and Bioinformatics. He has several published research articles in renowned peer-reviewed international journals with high impact factors in ELSEVIER, SPRINGER NATURE, WILEY, MEDKNOW etc. and has attended many local and international conferences in the area of Biomedical Sciences. He is passionate about applying the techniques of Molecular Biology in providing solutions to the global health challenges such as Cancer, Diabetes, and Neurodegenerative Diseases through the cutting-edge research and the state-of-art facilities. Recently, he investigated the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of Mitoquinol Mesylate (MitoQ), a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant, in mitigating the progression of diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocellular carcinoma in Wistar Rats. He was fortunate to find a novel metabolic pattern that revealed the up-regulation of antioxidant gene expression and activities of Mitochondrial antioxidant enzymes which in turn down regulated the expression of Nrf2 gene and protein in Cirrhotic-HCC rats as a mechanism of MitoQ in suppressing the transformation of cirrhosis to HCC. He is currently working on the use of whole genome sequencing for metagenomic analysis of gut microbiota in gastric and colorectal cancer patients attending the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria for treatment. This study seeks to identify novel marker genes and strains that discriminate cases of gastric and colorectal cancer from the healthy control to improve the preventive measures, diagnosis and treatment of gastric and colorectal cancer in Nigeria. He has vast knowledge and experience in the use of cell/tissue culture, handling small animal models, Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry, ELISA, Bioinformatics (drug discovery and genomic data analysis using R and Python Programming Languages), qRT-PCR and Whole Genome Sequencing Techniques.
