I am proud of my unique work history. US Air Force - Immediately after high school I joined the United States Air Force. During my military career in munitions, I was deployed during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I separated soon after Desert Storm ended with an Honorable Discharge and a Meritorious Service Medal. Early Childhood Education - After separating from the Air Force in 1993, I began my career in Early Childhood Education. Quite a change from working in Ammo. I enjoyed working with children. I felt as if I was making a difference in the lives of those children. Children's Programmer - In 2001 I began working in the public library system as a Children's Programmer. I loved this job! I've been an avid reader all my life and loved working with children. So landing a job working as a Children's Programmer was ideal. I enjoyed creating and presenting programs for children and their families in my community. Again, I felt as if I was making a positive impact on the community. Business Analyst - For family reasons, I relocated to the Chicagoland area in 2010. Unfortunately, there were no library jobs readily available, so I switched gears and worked in the financial industry for six years. What a great experience! As a Business Analyst in Project Management, I gained a lot of business and administrative skills that would be beneficial at any organization. I continued to work on these skills through programs at the local library. It was here that I learned of an opening in the IT Department. Computer Help Desk - And so began my career at the Downers Grove Public Library in 2019. I started at the Computer Help Desk where I helped patrons with technical issues and regularly developed and presented programs to our patrons. Circulation Supervisor - In 2021 I was offered a supervisor position in the Circulation Department. In this position i am learning more about how the library works. I help manage the day-to-day operations of the clerks and shelvers. I create and manage the onboard and annual training for the entire team. I joined several professional library organizations to further increase my knowledge of librarianship.Adult and Children's Programmer - Fortunately, I am allowed to "moonlight" for the IT and Kids Departments. I regularly create and present programs for the IT and the Kids Department. In this way, I am able to utilize and hone my business administration, training development and presentation and adult and children programming skills. I enjoy doing things that benefit the entire library!
