Bernard Lau is a lawyer and founding partner of Bernard Lau and Co. (http://www.bernardlau.com). He was previously the head of the real estate and litigation practice of Chak Lau and Co. LLP before branching out to set up his own firm with the rest of his real estate practice team.He practices in the areas of civil litigation, real estate law with an emphasis on real estate litigation (房地产民事诉讼), Wills and Probate, builders liens and Conveyancing (房地产买卖). Bernard has experience with various real estate-related practice areas, having represented both purchasers and sellers on real estate transactions. His litigation experience includes representing clients in all levels of court in BC including the BC Supreme Court and the BC Court of Appeals, and has advised clients on the following real estate litigation matters:- Partition of Property Act and property co-ownership disputes- Filing and discharging property liens including Builder's Liens and Certificates of Pending Litigation to preserve and freeze real property assets- Forfeiture of deposits for collapsed real estate transactions- Pursuing specific performance and court compelled orders of sale- General Civil Litigation and contractual disputes Bernard earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia. He also earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Real Estate at the UBC Sauder School of Business. He has contributed his legal research to a variety of published papers by Dr. Janis Sarra of the National Centre for Business Law on Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law.Bernard has acted as volunteer leader with S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
